One of my favourite albums as well as the finest work Marc Bolan ever did. This is one of the crowns of my collection so far, as it is in very good shape, both the cover and vinyl are great. There are some slight wears on the cover, but less than you can expect with a record of this age.
I had a period of intense listening to Electric Warrior. I found the album profoundly beautiful as well as groovy. I have since listened to pretty much everything Marc Bolan has done, and because I was introduced to T. Rex with this album, I always got a sense of disappointment. He never really managed to be so clear and spot on ever again, on any album. A strong competitor however is the Tyrannosaurus Rex (T. Rex before T. Rex, still Bolan but different sidekick) album 'Beard of Stars' from 1970, which I will return to later.
The songs from this album that I especially enjoy are 'Cosmic Dancer', 'Life's A Gas', 'Planet Queen' (there is also a nice acoustic version of this, which can be found as a bonus track on the special edition CD.) They manifest Bolan's philosophy beautifully; they're naive and cosmic, curious and wise and playful, without ever becoming stereotypical. Stereotypic and even irrelevant, are words that can describe some of Bolan's later work; he tried hard to maintain his winning method, without realizing it was going out of style and relevance.
When Marc Bolan died in 1977 he was 29 years old. He was carried to his last resting place in a coffin with a white swan on it - he did not dance into his thomb, like he sings in 'Cosmic Dancer'.
